Really.

Yep, you REALLY have to be 21 or older to participate. Sorry.

Friday, May 29, 2009

This year's race will be similar to last year's as it will be a point based race. It is Ten dollars to enter. You need to keep in mind that even if you finish first that does not necessarily mean that you will win. We will begin registration at 3pm on June 6th at Anne Morrison park next to the fountain. There is a costume contest at 3:30pm the theme is PROM!. Winners can choose to have point added to their manifest or choose from some cool prizes. The race will begin promptly at 4:30 pm. After you have registered you will receive a spoke card and a manifest will be placed in the spokes of your wheel on your bike, you will not be allowed to open your manifest until the race begins. On the manifest will be between 8-15 different places through out town that you will need to ride to and accomplish a specific task. Last year these tasks varied from hula hooping to answering trivia question(s). It is up to you to figure out the most paramount route for yourself or your team. Even if you ride as a team you will be scored separately. After you arrive at a stop and you complete that task set before you the person running the stop will sign off on your manifest and record the points you earned. When you have completed the manifest you will ride like the wind to the finish line where your points will be added up and do not forget that the order that you come in will also determine the winner(s) so it is important to keep speed in mind . You will need to put your name and your spoke card number on your manifest. Last year we had 9 manifests turned in with out names and those manifests were disqualified. If you have a hard time remembering your name make sure you have someone fill that part out for you. The finish line his at the Visual Art Collective in Garden City so that you can have your buddies waiting for you at the end. There is beer. There will be two bands and Matt Allen will DJing. Spoke cards get you into the end for free, other need to chip in three bucks to pay the bands. There will be two categories for D&P 4, a grouping for geared bikes and one for cruisers. In the past we have tried to have another class for fixed gear but we have not had enough interest to make that work yet. If you have any questions, please contact me at dirtyandpinkalleycat@gmail.com or go to the blog. http://dirtyandpinkalleycat.blogspot.com/

Dear Friends and Family of Jim Chu,

On May 19, Jim Chu was riding his bike during his lunch hour, in the bike lane and with a helmet, and was struck from behind by a Boise ValleyRide van. He passed away Thursday, May 21st at St. Alphonsus Regional Medical Center as a result of severe traumatic brain injury.

Memorial services will take place at Cathedral of the Rockies Emmaus Center in Boise, Idaho at 1:00PM on Friday, May 29th. If anyone has photos of or stories about Jim they would like to share, please forward them to me by Wednesday, May 27th to have them potentially included in the video memorial. Following the service, bicyclists will lead the procession to the burial service at Dry Creek cemetery in Eagle. It will be a new tradition in Boise. This will be a very special and unique ceremony, and we hope you will join us in honoring Jim and his life.

Additionally, a “ghost bike” ceremony will be held tomorrow, on Memorial Day, at 11am near the site of the incident. A bike has been painted white and will be decorated with flowers. Location is about 300 feet north of the intersection of Aeronca and south Orchard south of I-84 on Orchard on the east side of the street. If you attend, please part along Aeronca for safety, not on Orchard.

Much Love,

Lisa, Sara, Jenny and Jim’s Family

This family is beautiful and amazing and needs our support right now. You may not have known Jim but we all ride the same roads together. Making a journey to the ghost bike will be a very meaningful way to help this family know that there is a community thinking about them. Do it if you can. If any of you folks maintain bike-centric blogs and are reading this please do not hesitate to post this letter.

The procession/escort is in the works. You will be lead by a motorcycle escort towards the cemetery. You will not go all the way to Dry Creek. It will be a silent ride. Our route is not yet planned but will be by Friday. If you plan on riding in the procession (and I hope you do) you should wear a helmet. Please spread the word through our community.

This family is very interested in not only honoring Jim's memory but also making a very strong statement about being very aware of bicycles. -Bart

How is it going to work this year?

This info is for the Dirty and Pink 4. This year's race will be similar to last year's as it will be a point based race. You need to keep in mind that even if you finish first that does not necessarily mean that you will win. Last year Sam came in like 45th and kick everyone's ass. We will begin registration at 3pm on June 6th at Anne Morrison park next to the fountain. The race will begin at 4:30 pm. The costume contest will be at 3:30pm. You will be able to get an additional 10 points for having a kick ass costume. When you have completed the manifest you will ride like the wind to the finish line where your points will be added up and do not forget that the order that you come in will also determine the winner(s) so it is important to keep speed in mind . You will need to put your name on your manifest. Last year we had 6 manifests turned in with out names and those manifests were disqualified. If you have a hard time remembering your name make sure you have someone fill that part out for you. The finish line is at the VaC. There will be prizes... really great prizes..two bands playing, beer, a bar and DJ Matt Allen spinning us a terrific dance party. There are three races. The DATE RACE is an invitational race. See earlier posts. The other two races are similar in nature but one is for cruisers and the other is for all the rest. I have tried before to do a fixed category but there has never been enough interest. Questions? dirtyandpinkalleycat@gmail.com.

more confusion....

The "Date Race" part of DIrty and Pink 4 is a separate race from the normal Dirty and Pink race. IT IS IN ADDITION. Only the Date Racers need a camera. There is NO enrollment cap on the other two races. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE do not send a postcard if you are not interested in the Date Race. If there is any confusion at all just hit me up at dirtyandpinkalleycat@gmail.com!
