How does D&P work?

This year's race will be similar to last year's as it will be a point based race.  You need to keep in mind that even if you finish first that does not necessarily mean that you will win.  We will begin registration at 3pm on May 31st at Anne Morrison park next to the fountain.  The race will begin promptly at 4:30 pm.  After you have registered you will receive a spoke card and a manifest but remember, you will not be allowed to open your manifest until the race begins.  On the manifest will be between 8-15 different places through out town that you will need to ride to and accomplish a specific task. Last year these tasks varied from hula hooping to answering trivia question(s).  It is up to you to figure out the most paramount route for yourself or your team.  After you arrive at a stop and you complete that task set before you the person running the stop will sign off on your manifest.  When you have completed the manifest you will ride like the wind to the finish line where your points will be added up and do not forget that the order that you come in will also determine the winner(s) so it is important to keep speed in mind .  You will need to put your name on your manifest.  Last year we had 9 manifests turned in with out names and those manifests were disqualified.  If you have a hard time remembering your name make sure you have someone fill that part out for you.  The finish line has yet to be determined but we will let you know before hand so that you can have your buddies waiting for you at the end.  Most likely it will be a place where there is beer. There will be two categories for D&P 3,  a grouping  for geared bikes and for cruisers.  In the past we have tried to have  another class for fixed gear but we have not had enough interest to make that work yet. If you have any questions please contact us or post here!

How it Began

The Dirty and Pink Alley Cat is the brainchild of my super rad husband, Charlie. We were sitting at the Shanghai Tunnel in P-town during the 2006 Westside Invite talking to our good friend Clair when he told us about his vision for an all girls alley cat in Boise. Charlie and I talked about it on the drive home to Boise and he turned that great idea into an awesome annual event. Charlie's vision is to have an annual event that encourages women to make a lifestyle change and ride their bikes more often but most important, to feel confident about riding their bikes. His hope was to have some of the guys in town show up and work stops and offer encouragement to the gals and I gotta tell ya... those boys really come through! Noble Hardesty has done phenomenal art work for the posters and spoke cards for D&P every year. Another local artist, Kevan Smith, help with the large job of getting the spoke cards printed. It takes between 15-20 other men to work the stops and encourage the ladies to keep riding! Of course none of this would happen with out Charlie who spent many a sleepless night the first year putting together the whole shebang.

The first Dirty and Pink was in July of '06 and it was hot... really hot... 107 degrees hot. The 2nd Dirty and Pink was in June of '07 and it was hot... not as hot as '06... 98 degrees. This year we are going to have the race on May 31st and the farmer's almanac predicts a cool 80 degrees. Registration will begin at 3pm at the fountain at Anne Morrison park. Race will start at 4:30pm sharp. Costumes and the color pink are encouraged.
